At Cutting Edge Sharpening, LLC, located in Montgomery, New York, we pride ourselves on our meticulous sharpening process that ensures your tools are restored to their optimal sharpness. Whether it’s circular saw blades, outdoor tools, woodworking tools, or knives, we utilize a refined, multi-step process to deliver exceptional results. From coarse sharpening to precise honing and final stropping, we can apply our expertise to guarantee a sharp, long-lasting edge, providing you with quality you can trust.

The journey to a razor-sharp edge begins with coarse or rough sharpening. This initial stage involves removing the bulk of the dull or damaged material from the tool's edge. We typically use a bench grinder or a similar grinding process to achieve this, carefully shaping the edge and preparing it for the finer stages of sharpening.

01 Coarse Sharpening

Once the rough edge is established, we move on to honing. This critical step involves refining the edge by removing any imperfections left from the coarse sharpening. We achieve this by using progressively finer grinding stones or materials. Whether done as a wet or dry process, honing is essential for creating a smooth, precise edge that’s ready for the final touches.

02 Honing

The final step in our sharpening process is stropping, where the edge is polished to perfection. Stropping typically involves using leather or similar materials to remove any remaining burrs and to polish the edge to a razor-sharp finish. We often utilize a slowly rotating disk with water cooling to maintain the integrity of the edge while ensuring it remains cool throughout the process. This step is crucial for achieving the fine, sharp edge that our customers expect.
